Act II: Sumerians Most historians and archaeologists believe that the Sumerians were Anatolians. Its probable they came from the southern part of the Black Sea after Noah's flood and they initially lived in northern Mesopotamia and slowly moved to the south. The Sumerians moved to eastern Anatolia on the second half of the 5th Millennium BC. They lived in Mesopotamia till 2000 BC. Later proceeded by the Babylonian civilization. The Sumerians account of the flood may have been based on the flooding of the Tigris, Euphrates., or both rivers onto their already marshy country. Sumerians called themselves saggi- ga black headed people. Sumerians were highly innovative people. They invented writing 5500 years ago (figure 1). The style of the writing was called cuneiform . They also invented the wheel 5700 years ago (figure 3), and sausages 5000 years ago. They were the first people on Earth to live in cities and built their homes with sun dried clay bricks and straw. They knew irrigation and cultivated wild barley and wheat 7000 years ago. Beer was invented by the Sumerians over 5500 years ago. Figure 4 shows a seal found at UR which dates 5100 years ago . It depicts a gentlemen using a straw to drink beer out of a common crock.
